It's time for you to use all five characters at your disposal, destroy the boxes, meet up with Takuma and get out of there. Here, the boxes are spread around several islands and guarded by a fleet's worth of soldiers. Aikos Choice follows, well, Aiko as she stealths and slashes her way through Edo-period Japan to 'hunt down the ghosts of her past.

Turn up they do, in the very next mission at that. Were getting close to the release of the first expansion for Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and developer Mimimi Games has released a new gameplay trailer for the standalone DLC set to release on PC in December. You succeed in this and hide up in the crow's nest, ready for the ships to land and the rest of your crew to turn up. Stuck on a boat, you manage to escape captivity, now tasking yourself to mark five boxes of armaments supplied by the Portuguese. This mission would be one of the three interlude missions mentioned in the announcement of Aiko's Choice. In addition to this, he didn't even have his sniper rifle that I frequently found myself using in the base game. I say this, but the first of the missions I got to play only featured Takuma. The inclusion of all five also means you'll find a wide range of tactical challenges. Thanks to that, all five characters make an appearance, giving you complete control and use of their abilities. On that matter, the game's setting is somewhere between the first and last mission of the base title. At the same time, I don't think it will matter much anyway, particularly if you want a concise bit of excellent tactical gameplay.Īs one could expect, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice takes place in the same Edo period of Japan as the original. Simply put, I don't know if it matters much narratively. The game told me that the missions I got to play aren't chronologically the first in the expansion.
To my knowledge, Aiko's Choice allows anybody to jump in and play, even those who haven't experienced the base title. While this is an expansion to the original game, it's also standalone. That's what Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice is, a much-belated expansion, one that I was able to get hands-on with, and I'm now writing this belated preview (a broken foot, reviews, day job, elected councillor role, and everything else keeps conspiring to take any time I have away). Another thing that seems insane is that Mimimi is releasing an expansion to that outstanding title five years from the day it initially launched, on the 6th of December. The characters develop their own dynamic and each member will have to face their own personal demons. It feels insane that I reviewed Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun just under five years ago. Yet over the course of many missions, trust is won and friendships are made. Working together as a team seems impossible at first. The group is composed of very different personalities. Set traps, poison your opponents or completely avoid enemy contact. Choose your approach when infiltrating mighty castles, snowy mountain monasteries or hidden forest camps. Take control of a team of deadly specialists and sneak in the shadows between dozens of enemies. Shadow Tactics is a hardcore tactical stealth game set in Japan around the Edo period.

I'm damn impressed, as someone who played Commandos I really enjoyed the gameplay and this game is a welcome addition to our selection!Īfter the played the demo I'm really excited to pick up and play the full game, I think this will be a good one to livestream. It started off well above 100FPS, but when you get into the gameplay it drops down to around 90FPS. Performance wise on max settings with my 980ti it has been giving acceptable framerates. Bonus points for not annoying me with having to screw around with that. It displays on my primary monitor and in the correct resolution too. To my delight, the game works perfectly with my two monitors. The game will release tomorrow, so it's a good time to see if it's your thing or not. Note: The Linux demo is currently Steam-only.
